PRESS RELEASE (downloadable):

Green Business for a Sustainable European Economy

Ecopreneur.eu, a European network to foster sustainable economy and green businesses across EU, is launched today

Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Madrid. 22 – January-2014

Greening the European Economy! This endeavor is now on the agenda for organizations and multiple stakeholders coming from Germany, France, Austria and Spain. UnternehmensGrün (Germany), Entreprendre Vert (France) and Grüne Wirtschaft (Austria) have joined forces in a pan-European organization called Ecopreneur.eu. Today the founding press conference is taking place in Vienna. This initiative is strongly supported by Greenbiz (Spain).

ECOPRENEUR.EU is the umbrella organization of entrepreneurs, unified in their acceptance of responsibility for our economy, our environment and our society. Together they set a course for sustainable economic policies.

As a first project, Ecopreneur.eu will host a workshop next week (on Thursday 29th January, 11:30-18:00) at Impact Hub Madrid, in order to engage the different agents operating in the Green Economy. The focus of the workshop is placed on social and green start-ups and projects, representing major drivers and change agents in transforming the European economy towards sustainability. The overall aim is to facilitate the transition towards a low carbon economy, to promote research and innovation and support a sustainable economy which is able to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The workshop will review the state of the art of the Green Economy in Europe and the role of its key players (green businesses, eco-entrepreneurs and networks), identifying opportunities and major barriers for the above-mentioned actors.

A selection of Spanish green start-ups will be present, while a range of French, German and Austrian entrepreneurs will take part via a skype conference. The workshop aims at outlining strategies and a common pathway to empower those agents and advance the Green Economy in the EU, by tackling the barriers and tapping into the opportunities identified. The results of the workshop will then be included the jointly developed guidelines. Registration to the workshop is required and can be done here.

Both the workshop and a first guide (currently in progress) for green and social start-ups and projects are funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the German Federal Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA).
